Ed O`Reilly on Homeland Security

Democratic Senate Challenger

Reduce defense spending, starting with nuclear weapons

Q: Do you support the VoteMatch statement, “More spending on armed forces”?

A: No.

Q: What would you cut?

A: I need more time to look at what to cut, but it would be in the areas of nuclear weapons and conventional warfare. I would preserve and enhance anything that would protect our troops.

Should filibuster against eavesdropping without a warrant

Q: Do you support the VoteMatch statement, “The Patriot Act harms civil liberties”?

A: Yes.

Q: What actions would take about the Patriot Act? And about wiretapping?

A: I would have been in the Senate leading a filibuster and getting the one vote necessary to maintain the filibuster on August 3rd when FISA allowed NSA and the AG the right to eavesdrop without a warrant upon U.S. Citizens communicating with people outside of the U.S. My opponent was AWOL on this vote
